GRIHA Existing Schools Rating:
GRIHA for Existing Schools has been developed as a framework to evaluate and rate the environmental performance of existing schools across India. The evaluation would be done using calculators with pre-fed data and the students and teachers will be working collaboratively to meet the requirements of the rating.
The rating intends to develop a proactive attitude amongst the students and teachers to reduce their environmental footprint and adopt a greener lifestyle. Further, the rating intends to imbibe the concept of resource conservation by means of learning through play activities thereby converging towards the national targets.
The rating is structured to encourage better performance by the projects through a proportionate increase in points. In other words, a well-performing building will receive higher points.
The rating promotes sustainability by addressing the environmental parameters such as energy, water, and waste management and focusing on the social well-being and economic efficiency of existing facilities. The aim is to improve the overall operational sustainability of the building while ensuring occupant comfort and health.
The GRIHA EB rating system is designed keeping in mind India’s diverse climatic conditions and the operational challenges of existing buildings. It offers region-specific strategies to enhance thermal comfort and optimize building performance without major structural changes.
GRIHA Council engages with the facility management team, building owners, and other relevant stakeholders through an orientation workshop to ensure smooth implementation of the rating process. This collaborative approach helps all stakeholders to understand their role in achieving and maintaining GRIHA EB compliance.
Ensures healthier and more comfortable indoor spaces by enhancing thermal, visual, and acoustic conditions, along with maintaining high indoor air quality (IAQ) through improved ventilation and air filtration practices.
With minimum requirements for extensive documentation, the rating is suitable for operational buildings, including those with limited resources or stakeholder involvement.
The rating highlights the building’s commitment to sustainable operation and maintenance, improving its visibility, credibility, and market value. The commercial buildings especially stand to benefit even more with the optimized value of the property cost and increased tenant retention of the rated buildings.
The rated buildings will enjoy enhanced energy and water performance and increased thermal and visual comfort, ultimately resulting in decreased operational and maintenance costs.

The fast-track process is intended to provide handholding support to projects that need a faster clearance for various business and government approvals. It reduces the time required for rating while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the GRIHA rating system.
